“Uhm Mr Davenport, sir… Pr- Art,” Collin nodded to the two men who were sharing a butterbeer on the porch. Even at 23 and a published author, the young man was still intimidated by Adrian and couldn’t kick the habit of calling his old Care of Magical Creatures teacher “Professor”.
“What is it Mr Ro-“Art kicked him under the table, “Collin?” he winced, shooting a glare at his cousin. The mentioned man was grateful Art was there in case… Well in case Adrian decided to do anything, however unlikely it was.
“Uh well I know it’s not really how things are done anymore, asking permission and that, but my mama’s always raised me good and I- Well I’m going to propose… To Rena, tomorrow at dinner, and I was just- Well hoping you’d give me your blessing before I… asked…” Collin managed to stammer out, wringing his hands in front of him as he stared at the older man.
Adrian was quiet for so long Collin was sure he was going to say he wouldn’t give any blessings for them and it definitely wasn’t good to get married without their parents’ blessings. “Alright Collin,” he finally said after a sip of butterbeer, “You have my blessing. But don’t forget what I said, even if you’re married to her, if you hurt my little girl I’m going to kick your ass… Have you spoken to Chelsea about this?” he added as an afterthought.
Briefly, the younger man wondered if he would get mad that he’d already discussed this with his wife and she was already making plans for their wedding. “No red velvet cakes” was all he told her about it. Back on the porch he nodded at the man. “Okay then, was there anything else?” Adrian was obviously impatient to return to his quiet evening off. “No sir, thank you,” Collin grinned and turned back into the house.

His palms were damp and his body tingling with nervous tension as he sat at the restaurant table filled with Davenports and Romanovs. His brother Alexei had taken time off to come to this event so you knew it was special. Both parties knew exactly what was going to happen just before dessert came – well, all except for the girl sitting next to him.
“Ahem,” he cleared his throat to get everyone’s attention the moment the table was cleared. Faces looked at him expectantly; some already couldn’t fight their grins off their lips. He turned to the most amazing woman he’d ever met and looked into her eyes, her mocha eyes that he could just get lost in. “Serena Marie Davenport,” he began, sliding off his seat and onto one knee. “Would you do me the utmost honour,” he fished a small velvet box out of his pocket, “Of marrying me and being my queen forever and ever to the moon and back,” he grinned at their favourite metaphor, and opened the jewellery box in which lay a simple ring studded with diamonds.
Everyone held their breath even though they knew exactly what her answer would be. “Oh my god Collie, yes… yes!” and the biggest smile appeared on her face as she threw her arms around him, only pulling back to let him slide the band onto her finger before peppering his face with kisses.
“Now for dessert,” he smiled and kissed her hand as he returned to his seat. Turning to back to the congratulations, he scrunched his face up as red velvet cake was placed in front of everyone. The things he did for his princess…
Run baby run
Don’t ever look back
They’ll tear us apart if
You give them the chance
Don’t sell your heart
Don’t say we’re not meant to be
Run baby run
Forever will be
You and me

Collin glanced out the window; “Rena it’s snowing!”
“Really?!” She sat up in his lap, “Come on let’s go outside!”
“But it’s dark…” he said, hesitant.
“What’s life without some fun though?” she looked up at him with those adorable mocha eyes.
He felt his will crumble away, “Alright then, anything you want,” he finally sighed.
She just shot the sweetest smile his way as she pulled him outside.
Serena dropped a giant handful of snow on his head, letting out a musical peal of laughter as he tackled her playfully into the snow.
“I love you,” he kissed her.
